The tops of the sides are pipe welded on as it seemed the easiest way for me to get what I wanted.The tailgate skin came from a company in Yandina called BMV. http://www.google.com/search?client=fir ... ngineering They do quite a few different makes .

Awesome. I'm thinking I might have to go that way too welding the pipe on. Did it bend much from the welding heat? That is my biggest worry.

No it went quite well .The sides are 1.6 mm zinc anneal.I'm sure a person of your metal skills will be able to do a better job than me.

Nice build, looks like we are at a similar stage in progress with the build.

I got one of the Ford script tailgates off Chris as well, A very well made piece.

Also used 1.6mm zinc anneal for my bedsides with welded pipe on top too.

Marcus yes, the tube can bend if too much heat is applied.

I may have to run some weld on the opposing side to pull it back in a spot. A trick you have demonstrated!

Always handy to keep a chair nearby to sit and ponder the mistakes, lick the wounds and go back for another belting. If you give up then the joy of completion is never realised in a timely manner if at all. Yep, we all have most likely gone through the motions you describe Uteworks.

I looked for several years for running boards and eventually gave up and made my own.Recently I was visiting friends in Toowoomba on the same weekend as their swap but I hadn't planned on going but as our friends lived within walking distance I weakened and had a look. There among all the treasure I found a great pair of running boards and a pair of early ford horns.Amazing what turns up when you aren't looking

It seems I have a lot of time to work on my project for a while so I stripped it down to finish some small bits of welding and start to run fuel and brake lines .As I only have single carport to work in it is a bit of a challenge to find room for all the parts but this is the second car I have built in a single carport so I just make the best of it.I also thought I had better post again before I forgot how to post photos
