The new panel is done. To avoid having to cut up the back side of the cluster housing, I had to mount the new gauges down low, instead of centering them. Also need to space the speedo out…. It’s too thick to be mounted flush like the two smaller gauges. I plan on painting the panel with black wrinkle paint.

I had to go back and look at the panel. Makes sense why you mounted them low.

Looks good.

My daughter came home for a week, so I took a week off to work on cars with her. She changed valve covers, added some spark plug wire looms, and dropped the pan on the turbo-350 to change a broken detent spring and do a filter and fluid change on her 36 Hudson. We put a carburetor on my 54, dropped a distributor in it, and clamped temporary oil pressure and water temp gauges to the firewall, and started it up to break in the camshaft.

Mission accomplished. We ran it again afterward to set the timing and idle. I will try and post a video (or a link). In the meantime, here is a photo.

Having a daughter who is happy to work on your and her cars is tremendous.

I can't get either of my sons interested in cars beyond driving them and handing them to me to fix.

Good to see the cam run in went well.

I wonder how manufacturers did it?

I didn't have any daughters, but my grand daughter is into cars. When she was little she used to help me in the shop for pin money. When she was old enough to drive here aunt gave her a car that ran good but had hit a deer. So I picked up another one same year, same model, same color with a destroyed engine and her dad and I sat in lawn chairs while she removed all the damaged parts and replaced them with the good ones from the second car along with the brakes and tires. The second car paid off because over the next few years the drivers door was damaged in a minor collision, and it was stolen one time and the steering column was destroyed.

When she went to work she started at an auto auction checking in cars and rose to running the whole yard for that company running 700 cars a week through the auction. Now she runs a repair shop for another auction company that repairs and details cars that go through the auction. She also works on her husband's oval track race car, and even drives it some times.
People who think they know it all, bother those of us that do.
