Just came across this post on the new SEMA awards and shows a steering angle of 90* possible.

Designed and built in the USA the new Flaming River VDOG variable angle steering will solve a lot of problems for street rod builders facing space restrictions while working around exhaust headers, tight frame rails, and anything else that can get in the way. The VDOG is an all-new steering adjuster that allows a 90-degree angle from the steering column to the steering mechanism. Articulating output shaft for maximum adjustment. Mount horizontally or vertically. Aluminum housing with -36 shaft to connect to universal joints. The unit is gear driven without any chains, sprockets, or rubber bands.

Re: New steep steering angle setup.
Marcus,
I would guess the unit is a 3 gear system.
If it was a two gear system it would reverse the direction of rotation.
Similar (non-adjustable) units are used in a few Jap forward control vans.
I use a Mitsubishi one in my car and it suited my front mount rack.

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I make the 90 deg ones and also the chain drive. Both engineered and compliant in all states

Re: New steep steering angle setup.
With bevel gears it depends on what side the gear is. Think turn diff upside down and rotation is reversedzuffen wrote:Marcus,

Sudsy,
Agree.
I hadn't thought of that and I run an upside down diff to get the correct rotation for my reverse mounted engine.
Sometimes I'm a bit slow!
