Re: Prefect - 1st build
It has been a while for an update as I have been on a learning curve trying to sort out the floors for my project.
As I have a donor car for seats and a few other parts I thought I may be able to use those floors to save fabricating mount etc but what a wast of time. After a day of cutting I realised that the strength is from overlapping 3 to 4 pieces of tin foil and there was no way to make it function or look good.
I decided to make up some ply templates and take them to a sheet metal shop to get them to cut out what I needed and roll some beads in it for strength, which turned out to be a much better and stronger idea.
I had them add some extra metal around the edges so that I could fold them up and give me a lip to help mount the trans tunnel to the floor
Then it was time to start making pieces for the tunnel and as the original piece was the wrong size I found and old head board off a ute I did up many years ago and used that. Who said hoarding junk didn't pay off one day.
I also started fabricating the section to go over the tailshaft hump but haven't quite finished yet
The reason I stopped was that our inspectors up here are now back out working and I had my 1st inspection completed today.
I am very happy to say that everything was up to standard and passed and the only thing that I have to alter later on is the engine mounts as I had used the original rubber ones, but am meant to have a captive one in case the rubber breaks so if anyone has a recommendation on what is a good mount to use it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Prefect - 1st build
Hi Simon. The simple way to fix those type of engine mounts is to fix a piece of light chain between the upper and lower mounting bolts. The aim of the exercise is to stop the engine coming into contact with any steering components. IE the shafts in your instance. I'm on the TAC in WA and this seems to satisfy Transport. The left one is usually the only one to let go due to lead footing.

Thanks for the tip Steve, I will have a chat to the inspector and see if something like that would be acceptable to him.hotrodsteve wrote:Hi Simon. Re: Prefect - 1st build
I finished off a bit more of the tunnel on my floor today and it is amazing how seeing something new makes you feel like you are making some progress.
I had originally planned on trying to use the old rear section of floor but now that I see it against the new steel I think it might be better to order some more new steel and then it will all match? I guess this is what they call the snowball?
