Good evening Gents,

I've sat in the shadows for a long time awaiting for the factors of life to settle down. Now that my boys are teens and my wife and I are in a strong financial position, we have settled just north of Newcastle with enough space to have a decent project on the go, so now I want to get more involved in the hobby of hot rods.

The first project that I'm looking into is building a reliable usable International Aa110,a workshop truck. I have not purchased a truck yet.
I grew up with inters as farm trucks, the steering would wander, they never really stopped and they were hard on fuel.

The combinations I'm considering are:

1 original suspension, lower, disc break front end ( what breaks would fit?), updated drive train.
2. Jaguar ifs updated drive train
3. Falcon front end and drive train

Option three is cost effective, I have a low mileage ef falcon sedan, parts supply for my xf, that would offer up a possible front end and drive train.

I have looked at the Melbourne company that puts falcon front ends in f100, honestly that is out of the budget. Is there others that have installed such front end? Or should I forget the ef and leave is as a parts car for my xf?

Option 2 jaguar, what can I use out of one? And is there anybody actually interested in the rest of the car if I was to wreck one? Is there anybody that has put a jaguar ifs under and inter?

On a different matter, I can weld, but to be honest I don't have the required tickets so I need to find somebody local that I can trust. Can you recommend anybody?

Peter, if you hunt around for a C1100 International they came with "factory" disc brakes front and rear. 8)

You don't need welding certificates to modify your chassis.

You do need a Certificate to weld steering and suspension components, and usually have them tested.

I have two vehicles with different suspension under them and on neither did I need to have any testing done and I'm no pro and my welding shows it.

If you opt for the Jag route you can usually sell off most of an XJ6 as Jag owners are too tight and proud to go to wrecking yards, so they buy from private sources.

Welcome aboard Peter. We look forward to you build and progress. Be sure to put progress pics as you may have found just lurking behind the scenes we like plenty of them.

There are a couple of inter builds on here somewhere using Jag front and rear suspension and others using different combo's. They are KB's and AR's though so dont know if the chassis are the same. I'm going to be running Jag front and rear on my AR inter but yet to start a build thread on here.

Some members on here with inter's that you may find of interest.

G'day guys,

Can a larger inter aa150 or aa160 be cut down enough?

There seems to be more of the larger trucks around in good order than the 110s

G'day Guys,

I thought I would drop in and say thank you guys for your inputs, thanks to Mark for the reality check on suspension options. Engineering challenges are fun, but the road to approval is quite murky, I'll seek out a jag as a donor.

The inter is an ex tow truck and bush fire truck, runs nicely but since I degree see the motor I can no longer keep oil up to it.. A few new gaskets are required. It is quite straight for , but has its issues. Leaks oil like a sieve, the chassis has been cut off behind the rear spring hangers and has numerous holes and lights on the roof.

Once I'm a little more organised I'll post pictures. In the mean time, I'm in the Newcastle region, my weekends are limited with kids sporting commitments, however I am keen to meet any locals.

P.s. As per my login, one of my other toys is an xf (original 4.1 which has been balanced and blue printed) that I have had for more than 15 yrs. It is a bit of a standing joke in my family, I think one of my boys would sting me up if I sold it.

Who in Nsw has engineered a jag ifs and irs?

G'day Guys,

I thought that I would jump in and post an update, progress has been a little slow on the aa, my work has taken me off shore for several months and the recent storms in Newcastle will keep my progress at a snails pace, my shed has no roof and no power. Where am I up to, I suppose I'm at the mock up stage. The Jag front end is sitting in place, the engine is sitting in place, the plan changed when a low mileage Toyota quad cam and auto showed up at a fair price.

I'm Hoping that you might be able to offer some assistance in a couple of areas:

1. The aa and later inters (and dodges) have a wider chassis than earlier model inters, the fitting of a jag front end is not so straight forward, at 860mm it contacts directly with upper jag wishbones. Some space needs to be crated, options are to pinch the chassis or notch the upper part of the chassis. I have thought my way through the problem and both options seem suitable but which is a more proven track. Does anybody have photos of later inters or dodges with jag front ends, i'm really looking for the detail on what has been previously done so that I can head down a proven track.

2. I am now re-thinking my rear suspension, I have a jag rear that I have sitting in the shed, it will need to be uncaged to fit. I'm chasing mount plates, pivot support plates, cross members etc, if you manufacture or sell these, or if you have the cad drawings can you please pm me. I've tried goggle but American websites is all I get, if I'm spendig money I would like to spend it locally.

3. I am vaguely considering seeking a fabricator/workshop, but I honestly am not sure of what sort of costs or who to even trust in the Newcastle area. The work that I'm looking to get done is, plate the chassis crack, mount jag front and rear ends and to make up mounts for the engine and gearbox. If the forum could offer me some information, recommendations and indicative prices, either via pm or posted here I would greatly appreciate it. That way I can keep this project moving and do hat I'm looking forward to and that is driving the wheels off it.

Hello Peter

Like you i am building an Inter AA110. I have fitted jag front and rear end. I notched the jag front crossmember and then welded to chassis with gussetts for strength.
I also mounted the rear end out of the cage. I had a block made that welded to the rear lower control arm and allowed me to move the coil over 30 mm outward.
This doesnt affect rear suspension geometry but does alter shock and spring rates and decreases suspension travel by about 15mm. Ill post some photos when i work out how.

Be aware if you pinch the chassis rails the vehicle will be classed as an ICV.

You don't want to go there, trust me. :(

I would look for an earlier chassis, try these guys http://www.hcvc.com.au/forum/YaBB.pl as they are well into Inters and Dodges.

Finally worked out the pix post. Sorry i havent got pix of how i did it but the front upper wishbone towers are notched about 40mm in the back corner and replated. The front crossmember is positioned under the chassis in the correct spot and welded to chassis rails. To work out the correct spot place crossmember under chassis with front guards etc in place to ensure correct position in wheel opening.
The rear axle mounting is well covered in this forum. I had to move the lower coilover mount out and down to allow clearance on the outside of chassis rails and to get lower ground clearance. I took it to an engineer and asked him to drill a new hole in the lower control arm. his solution was to make a steel block which he welded to the lower control arm which allowed a lower mounting point. As in the photos i fully boxed the chassis rails as well. I am running a 5.7 Hemi with six speed auto.
