Ah yes, back when a 20' rim belonged on a truck and the term rat rod hadn't been invented!

Thanks for posting these.

My first Nationals too; although only as an observer; we went down in an old Holden from memory. I had started on the '34 Chev Coupe project in early '76 I think. Great memories.

The weather was foul on the way down on Good Friday. Dawned fine and Narranderra was a picture with fresh clear air and all the autumn colours etc; it was an amazing spectacle for us.

Great pics , thanks Fredeuce.

This was discussed over a few convivial ales at Port Fairy and the general consensus was although we still enjoy runs , they're a far cry from back then , the exception to the rule was the Vic State Run in Ballarat '08 hosted by the Fuellers , it was grass roots rodding.... with a couple of show cars out there in the dust going for it .

I recall at one of the Mildura Nats seeing Daryl Scholes arrive in the California T absolutely covered in mud ( trailers werent invented then  ) 5 days later he held aloft the Top Car Award.

Or is it more like most people only bring their cars out if there is a show on. Those days looked like a whole heap of fun. 8)
