Thanks, that makes my decision easier.

The van will only run a fridge and a couple of fans to keep the dogs from overheating. Of course LED lighting when dark but they consume bugger all power.

I've thought of panels to keep it all topped up.

Given the price and safety restraints of the LioN batteries replacing AGM batteries every so often isn't a problem. Just make sure they are easy to get to.

If I did install a LioN battery it would have to be in such a position that you could undo an Anderson plug and throw it if decides to self immolate.

That was a close shave.

If you had looped the strap around the hook once it shouldn't have tried to slide.

I've seen too many engine cranes fall over sideway when the engine is at full height.

They are fine moving back and forward along their length but always be really careful of moving and engine crane sideways.

I use a short length of 3x2 timber the pry the crane in whatever direction I want it to go in.

I was about to do the single wrap that evening, but said to my wife I'd rather leave it and just set it up properly the next day.
I sure do worry about them tipping sideways too! Seen too many videos of them falling over, especially when not on concrete. I notice some come with a short horizontal handle to help them rotate. Nearly made one for this and will before the next job I think.

Lucky escape and nice to see the progress. I made a HEMI engine (with trans in place) lifting jig specifically for mine but it requires removal of intake manifold. It allows me to lift engine out with the body on if ever required in future. I also built the gantry shown on my build just for this project and sold it after the body went back on. I could have kept is as it folded down flat but have fingers crossed I will never need it again. I have my 34 together enough for a first road test tomorrow.
I never make the same mistake twice, I do it 5 or 6 times just to be sure !!!

Making progress, https://www.muston.com/public_html/34%2 ... _Limo.html

I once installed a Buick engine and 400 turbo into a 52 Ford pickup with all the windows cracked except the windshield. I had a borrowed crane and was standing on the back of it. I had to move something out of the way, Jumped off the crane, and it all tipped over into the windshield! No damage except to the glass, but I have been much more careful since then.

A loop of the strap over the crane hook would have kept it from slipping, but you know that now.

It was the typical end of the day, trying to get it ready to go in before the weekend is over and my wife can't help, situation. Should not have taken the short cut with the rigging and wont next time! :D

Geez!

If I said "Quick, quick, quick" to my other half, I'd find myself single!

Said a long time ago, she's a keeper!

Just a question, why is the chassis so high when fitting the engine? And why are the jack stands where they are? Towards the end of the video, it looks as if the whole chassis will tip forward when the engine weight lands on it.
Yeah. I've changed my signature. The old one was out of date...

The axle stands are as far apart as they can go before they slope upwards and are no longer horizontal. I made sure I had the weight of the rear axle in before fitting the engine. Actually the frame balances on the rear set of stands without the axles fitted, so had to fit the rear axle before the front assembly.

Coming time to decide what colours to paint the old HEMI coil covers and the piece over the radiator that I embossed the 'W' into. I think the hammer tone I did the covers in blend them in too much, so maybe body colour with black centre wire cover? Otherwise could do silver with wire cover satin black like original? There was even a gold version.
Around the lock area and radiator top cover body colour?

The very top of the firewall, last 100mm/4" above the pinch weld, will be the olive gold body colour, below that is a firewall pad. The suspension tower brace, runs from one side to the other with the three holes in it, I don't want it to be a main feature, so will be satin black along with the inner guards and back of the grille etc as can't see them anyway.

I think the gold rocker covers and black wire covers are the most iconic engine dress up ever.

If it were my car, which isn't possible because I couldn't build it, I would have body colour on all of the bits you mentioned.

The reason being I always thought Holden with their black engine bays were a cop out and ugly.

To me a finished engine bay should be an extension of the body colour.

If you look at my top picture, you cannot see any of the inner guards at all! What the tower brace bolts too is part of the chassis, not the inner guards and are already semi gloss black. Even the firewall has a pad on it from the pinch weld down, and above that will be body colour.
So why go to a lot of extra expense in paint and and clear coats plus cutting and polishing etc for something you cannot see?

I have 90% of people of the on the forums and my FB feed etc all love the gold too. Funny as didn't think anyone would even like it. Now I am seriously considering it but can't find a single code for it. Probably should be semi gloss too like the wire covers. Might have to print it out on photo paper and take it to be colour matched.

I'd happily ask the HAMB if anyone has the paint code as they have heaps of Hemi's in that paint scheme. Whilst the HAMB isn't my cup of tea they do have some interesting builds.

I think black engine bays are designed to cover the ugly bits in a colour that hides the poor workmanship and rough edges.

In for a penny, in for a pound. What's a few more hundred Dollars on a paint job? :D

It is more about wanting the focus to be the engine. ;)

Love to know what the code is for sure.
