Looks great Marcus, well done. A word on those remote controlled actuators, a great product. I put a set on my caravan bed, and mistakenly put the control unit under the bed too. Then after a couple of years the battery on the remote went flat and after I replaced it. it would not pair with the control unit. I had to remove slats from the bed to hot-wire it open. It now runs on an electric window switch.. I also put a second on-off switch in the circuit to isolate it in case something hit the up button accidentally.. Plan B work better.. The truck looks great, love the paint, and all the clever stuff we saw in the build now all hidden and working.. Enjoy it !!
I never make the same mistake twice, I do it 5 or 6 times just to be sure !!!

Thanks Rob. Already have a hard wired cut off and up/down switch. Also a couple of remotes.

The truck is on skates, so that is a good sign.

Image
Folder and all the metal shaping machines and tools boxes are out of the way too.

Image
This time we are not left jammed up against the house and folder.

Image
Had no trouble at all getting inline with the back of the house this time.

Image
We removed the skates from the rear so they will track straight ahead while leaving the skates on the front for steering.

Image
The pull rods I made to move the 2 ton folder around worked really well to pull the truck forward. Lisa was on one side and I on the other.

Image
And it is out! Only took 20 minutes this time instead of 2 hours, not including moving everything out of the way and putting it back again.

Image
So out with the new and in with the old? 1932 Willys 6-90 Silver Streak alongside the 1948 Willys Truck.

Can't wait to see it out on a sunny day. :)

Many thanks guys. :)
I'll wait until the tailgate is on, was finished yesterday and just waiting for it to harden enough for final cut and polish, before I start driving it around locally at first. Once I have some paint protection on, start driving all over the state. :)

Image
Had picked up a couple of Willys Trucks from Kmart and have pulled one completely apart for a paint job.

Image
As the painters were shooting my tailgate for my full sized truck this week anyway, I got them to hit the models body as well. I had prepped it ready to paint for them to save some time.

Image
I painted the interior pieces that were red black to match my truck.

Image
Put it all back together again and here you can see what I started with. 1:43 scale and made by Welly in their NEX line up. Bargain for $19.

Image
I lowered the front suspension to give it a matching hot rod rake.

Image
Can even see the WO embossing for Willys Overland like I added to my custom tailgate.

I'll bet there were some pucker moments getting it out.

Will it live under the carport? You wouldn't want to put it in and out of the that passageway too often.

You have done an absolutely amazing job. Congratulations.

The model looks good, but did you widen it and pancake to roof plus the roof chop?
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Congratulations Marcus (and wife). It has been really enjoyable to follow this through from the beginning. Also nice to see it next to the new project which looks more like a rusty smear than a "Silver Steak".. I am looking forward to seeing it around at events, and following the next one. The other side of this journey has been the learning process, not only for yourself but also those of us following along. And the metal-meetups. I learnt a lot, and challenged myself as a result. Thanks..

I was looking at your photos with all the Willys signage etc. I knew a little about founder John North Willys but not his early life. It seems (from WIKI) after making bicycles he became a dealer for Overland cars and then bought them out in 1908 and in 1912 renamed it Willys–Overland Motor Company. From 1912 to 1918, Willys was the second-largest producer of automobiles in the United States behind Henry Ford. Not a bad effort. I also read some stuff on Wiki about him which is incorrect. Can you recommend a good book on his life story ??? The weird part is that he became US ambassador to Poland in 1930 so must have lost control of the company as it survived until bankruptcy in 1933, and was later revived. I know the banks hired Walter Chrysler to take control in 1919 on a $1 million salary with a 3 year contract. Willys at that time also owned the Deusenberg boat engine company.

Wasn't quite that ambitious with the model. :)

Wont live in the carport or the workshop. It will be in a separate garage that you see in the background of all the shots through the large opening in the workshop, or when I'm cutting outside.

I don't know anything more about John North Willys than I have read in the same places as you.

First time out in the sunshine and trying out my new camera to capture the real colour, depth and great work laying it on by Donburn Customs.

Image
Finally get to see it in the sunshine!

Image
Quickly drove around the block and pulled over to the wrong side of the road to get these shots.

Image
Look how much the colour changes and the great reflections showing off the wonderful paint job that Donburn Customs did.

Image
I'll get some better background shots later, but just trying out the new camera.

You really did choose the right colour for that vehicle. It has enough pop that you can tell it is a modern colour, but is subtle enough that it will age well.

Cheers,
