I found an inconspicuous location for the carbon canister.

As you all know working on these projects, things don’t always go smoothly.
The original tail shaft is 45 mm too long, so there goes another $800.

Before attempting the exhaust I made sure everything was attached so there were no surprises, or less anyway.
I modified the existing hand brake cable brackets to make them shorter.
I also kept the mounting hardware from the donor Fairlane for the rear sway bar.

I have made and redone all the fuel lines, vapour and brake lines to the rear.
They will just need final touches when the inner guards, fuel tank and exhaust are finished.

I have redone the transmission mount to give more clearance to the handbrake cables,
lifting it 15 mm, it will probably also lead to increasing the engine mount height to get
3 degree engine angle.

Pity about the tailshaft. it's possible to shorten one by the little bit you need without rebalancing it. $800.00 is rich, last time I did one in Sydney it was about $450.00.

Wasn't it easy with older engines where you only had to run a fuel line and not return and vapour lines!

Keep at, it's looking good.

The exhaust is almost complete most of it can be welded permanently now,
I had to modify the LH collector as the angle made the first pipe too close to the chassis.

The RH pipe by the O2 sensor also had to be shortened so it lined up with the opening in the chassis.

I have used the donut type mounts and some Fairlane brackets modified for hangers.

The mufflers I will make hangers from the crossmember of the ute tray when that goes back together.

The rear pipes I will have then done at the exhaust shop after I know how the towbar will fit.

Is there a reason the rear header pipe on the Passenger's side has a flattened side.

It looks very factory but not the most efficient.

Those exhaust mounts look like Range Rover/Jaguar engine and transmission mounts. Plenty strong enough foe the exhaust.

Where did the charcoal canister end up as couldn't work it out from the photo?
Some great progress there. :)

I scored a set of good priced Wheel Vintiques V8 hubcaps to suit my Artillery wheels from a fellow who ordered the incorrect ones.

I had ordered them from a local Victorian supplier but they refunded me as they could not give me a delivery date from
Wheel Vintiques.

My son with his boiler maker hat on welding the pipes after I had tacked them all in place.

That's all for now, the next projects will be replacing the spring hangers and installing the replacement rear chassis corner,
remove the engine and drive line and send the extractors out for ceramic coating and probably tidy up the engine with a little paint.

New parts I made for the hangers with a grade 8 bolt.

IMG_2196.jpg

This is the steel parts of the exhausts, I've painted them with heatproof exhaust paint, the rest is stainless.

The engineer will check out the work so far then I can weld it all once he is happy, then sand blasting and painting the chassis.

It is the standard 5 L Windsor exhaust so I don’t know why it’s like that, it will only be a standard motor, for now anyway, but
I may do a Stroker later on after the bugs are ironed out.

It is the box mounted on top of the inner guard near the air duct.

Nice wheel and cap. Looking to do something similar with Elvira.
