351 Clevo Engine mounts custom
Hey guys and girls.
Currently have a 351c mated to some really funky mounts off the Jag front end.
A couple of guys have seen the engine mounted like this and have said it fits okay so leave it.
BUT...
I think it sits too high and think it needs to come further back to the firewall and dropped down about two inches.
That way the c4 auto doesn't smack into the cabin floor (In fact if I keep this arrangement will have to modify the cab floor)
as well its a little more in line with the diff etc.
I saw this kit online and wondered what you guys thought of it?

Notice I have the Bronco rear sump arrangement to clear the front end.
Should I just leave the damned thing alone as it doesn't foul anything where it is, or should I mess with stuff and put it where I think it
wants to live?

You may have firewall clearance problems with exhaust manifolds/extractors, I fitted a cleavo in a 57 F100 many years ago and had to drop the engine a little, pretty sure there was a starter motor/steering box clearance problem as well???
If it has tits or wheels, you can expect trouble.

Yes, good points. Hadn't given the steering intermediate shaft much thought.
Might have to stick a Chevy in there after all. Ha ha!

If you feel it's not in the right place, move it.
Every time you open the bonnet it will annoy you.
It isn't hard to move it just keep in mind the things that may interfere with the engine.
Moving it down and back would certainly get the nose heavy, understeer a bit more under control.

I would move it down and back as far as you can then fabricate new mounts to suit

Oil pan will be your biggest problem with a clevo .
But it looks like you have a bronco pan under it so that may help a bit .
i can tell you a good old y block will work with a jag front .

Here are some photos of my setup Jag FE in the 52 Mainline 5 L Windsor with later style hydraulic engine mounts, mine sits low on
the cross member and tight with the trans tunnel, I may have to lift it to get more engine angle.

Was looking at this style of engine mount. Looked neat but did seem flimsy. Spoke with engineer and he said he wasn't that impressed. I then showed him the Tuff Mounts option and he said they seem much better.

The first lot do look flimsy. The old 351 isn't exactly light.

The top kit doesn't lend itself to solving your problem in my opinion. I agree they look flimsy and the chassis mount will be in single shear at best. Both of the kits will be 'less cushioned' than the factory mount you currently have. Certifiers typically like OEM parts over aftermarket.
Try and get your engine mocked up exactly where you need it to be. Use the whole engine assembly with heads and consider all factors such as manifolds, exhaust, steering, cooling system etc. I assume that you have plenty of real estate in the F100 to play with and try to think of all components that have to fit.

The bottom kit doesn't look to bad but I would add some gussets to the frame half of the mount, and maybe box the top of the same part.
People who think they know it all, bother those of us that do.

Cut your engine mounts down. Chuck away the top brackets and make some flat brackets up in place of them. Easy as.
