Jaguar Suspension question
Time to seek help on Jaguar rear suspension.
Does anyone know the size of the bolts that hold the coilover unit? This is the upper mount as the lower is a threaded pin that passes through the lower arm so you would use the factory pin. However I'm just using the coilover so upper and lower bolts will be used.
They seem rather solid, but they are holding up a heap of car, so it makes sense.
I would guess they could be either imperial or metric depending on the age of the rear suspension they came form?

Hi Rod.
You mean the top bolts that mount the top shock eye to the Jag rear end cage?
I just had a quick measure with my plastic metric vernier guage.
The bolts are about 11.5mm or whatever the imperial eqivalent is.
I measured the holes in the shock eyes and the holes in an empty cage.

Yeah. I've changed my signature. The old one was out of date...

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
thanks Jeff,
I'll take the shocks along o the nut and bolt store and see what fits well.
It could be either metric of imperial as I don't know what they came off.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
That's pretty much what I remember pulling out of the Jag cage years ago.
7/16 UNF is about 11.1mm diameter.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
Been a Jag it would be 7/16 BSF. These are very hard to find. Cheers Pato

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
The bolts on the XJ6 and XJ12 rears I have here are 7/16" UNF All the series II and III XJ rears I have torn down had imperial hardware throughout. For that matter all the front ends did too.
People who think they know it all, bother those of us that do.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
The bolt diameter is my main concern, the thread can be what =ever I can get.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
My Mark 1 diff has 7/16 BSF, if they changed to UNF later that was a great move.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
It will be interesting what the bolts turn out to be.
Is there anyway of telling the series or ago of the shocks? I can't find a date on them but I'll try Googling the part numbers.

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
I managed to find some numbers on a spare set I have. They are Monroe 43013 B10D89. But the numbers dont produce any sucess with Google. The forums are full of numbers thought, mainly Monroe 39003, which are (were?) sensa-tracs. I say were because a lot of the older sensa tracs aren't available anymore. (Like for my Commodore, bugger it!).
And, the top mounting bolt at 7/16ÜNF doesn't look strong enough, but those bolts are to mount the shocks in the standard cage which has two brackets that the shock hangs off, one on each side of the shock upper eye. The bottom (I think - I dont have one on the table as I write this) is "single sided"as in it's only supported on one side of the eye, hence it's a bigger bolt.
So Rod, in your application, is the upper bolt supported on both sides?

Re: Jaguar Suspension question
No Jeffa, not at this point.
Bear in mind the car weighs around 700K so may get away without double sheer as the bottom is in single.
A bit more research needed.
