Vale Australian Street Rodder magazine

Post by jeffa »

Yes, I had to read it a few times too.

It seems ASR has gone the way of so much we all love in our hobby/sport.

In the current issue (issue 398, August 2023) there is a note which reads:

"It is with great sadness that I share with you that issue 400 of
Australian Street Rodder will be the last issue we publish.
This was a very difficult decision to make but it is the best one
for me, moving forward.
[There is some subscription related words here] Then:
"I thank you for your support over the years and wish you all the best
in the future
Till next time.stay well stay safe."

Signed Mary O'Toole."

I, for one will sadly miss my monthly Hot Rod fix.

It's become an institution for me. When it arrives in the post
i grab a cuppa, and head straight for Ted Robinette's
Technical Workshop, then back to the start with "Graffiti, then the drag news,
then Kustoms of Australia, Then skip to the back for Larry's Leftovers, then Hugh Nally's shortcuts.
Then I start reading about who is building what, and perve at the finished projects.

All gone...

Yes, I know there's lot of stuff online but I enjoy reading the stuff in a magazine. Doesn't matter where I am
I can read the magazine. No need for internet service, carrying my laptop around, on holidays etc.

Sad, but the writing has been on the wall for some time, and Larry's passing was the final nail :(

There's a special feeling of holding a magazine or catalogue in your hands and reading it.

O guess we all show our age as I know my kids find it odd that I prefer a tangible item in my hands rather than on the net.

Sad but the way the magazine industry has been headed for the last 30 years.

We're lucky it lasted so long.

Whilst it is not surprising and I can understand the decision, I will greatly miss Australian Street Rodding.

I have been reading it for over 40 years and there is no doubt that the mag and Larry have had a huge impact on my life and my life's direction.

Most of my time is spent either working on hot rods, out with hot rod mates or traveling to hot rod events. None of that would have happened without Australian Street Rodding.

There have been many major changes in my life but Australian Street Rodding was always there - sadly no more after issue 400.

That is such a shame. I have had a subscription for years.
I was also in the middle of writing the next update for the magazine on the Willys!
