I've started this thread as a hopeful base for where to source some modern wheel / tyre combos that are both tall and thin, to meet the NCOP regs for;
1) a minimum 'S' rated (180kph) tyre, and
2) a minimum five (5) inch rim width.
RIMS
Most period steel rims require widening or rebanding to meet NCOP.
5 inch wide barrels are nearly impossible to find on their own, but some space saver spares and stock steelies carry J and JJ rims in various sizes, which you can always machine the centre from - being;

Try this site.https://www.thewheeldeal.com.au/wheels.html . Look at the Sunraysia range. Click on the style pics They have the wheel sizes by rim diameter and load rating with PCD and width. And offsets. Smaller diam widths go down to 4.5".

If you have period centres and want a 5 or 5.5in wide barrel, it's not happening until less you use a major manufacturer's wheel.
Their narrowest is 6in for 15 and 16.

In Victoria I know of a place that can help with Custom wheels. Eastern Wheel Works, Lilydale They have website. And do rim widening etc. I have an imported 49 Ford pickup with a 350. I had to re build the thing for rego from boxing the chassis and the list of everything else required for the engineer cert. It came with a set of nice chrome steel custom wheels. I fitted a Jag front end and got an LHD rack I was lucky to score. These wheels with a large flat center surface before offsetting outward were able to be multi fit drilled.by EWW to add Jag/Chev to the existing F100 pattern. Unfortunately I then found that I ran foul of the allowable increased track spec due to wheel offset. Ended up getting wheels from the Sunraysia line for back and fronts and have one of the mulifits for a spare at the moment. Only last week I contacted EWW for a custom wheel to use as a multifit emergency spare . For compactness I was after a 6" 15" rim. They could do one but the center would be made dead flat and as long as my brake calipers sat back behind the wheel hub /wheel mating surface they could help. Only yesterday I did pull a wheel and to my delight I have around 4-5mm clearance. Aim is to shove the compact spare up under the bed rather than my current arrangement chained and padlocked in the bed.

So I'm using 0 offset wheels for the front (BJ40 16x5.5) and then cutting the centres out of the older, matching split rim centres and grafting them to 16x6 barrels for the rear, but with a +13mm offset so I can get the track width difference to a more acceptable 2 inches.
The wheels should also have the same dish front and rear, which is what I'm after too.

Re-banding was mentioned in an earlier Post and I was under impression they had banned using bands by stipulating a wheel rim may only have one circumferential weld.
having only one weld is way better than adding bands anyway. If you machine two rims up you can usually come up with what you need with only the one weld.

yeah sorry - "Rebanding" should read "rebarelling"- one weld maximum for steel rims is really the issue.
The idea is you take the vintage centre out and put it to a modern J or JJ safety-bead rim for modern radials needing an 'S' rating.
If you're making one barrel out of two (ie wires) then that's a bit different.
just can't get skinny steelies any more.
*edit* Suzuki Swift 2014+ has a 16x5 steel spare - can admin pls update the orig post?

Are you allowed to run a space saver temporary spare steel wheel if you put a normal appropriate tyre on it (ie. no space saver tyre, but space saver rim)?
