My Truck is a calendar model now! 🙂
Image
I was fortunate for my Truck to be picked by the Old Willys Forum members to be one of the 12 for their new calendar. https://www.oldwillysforum.com/.../OWFC ... WFcal.html Can still order them, ignore Dec date as was for before Christmas delivery, and can order up until the 27th of January I have just been told.

Thank you Joe. :)

I am thinking of doing the chassis, suspension and axles etc myself.
Anyone ever use the KBS chassis coating kit?

I haven't used KBS but Por15 on the chassis of my FARGO.

11 years after I applied it it's still going strong with no rust in evidence.

If you use Metal Ready (Por product) you can paint over smooth non-rusty metal.

They are all about as good as one and other.

The only reason I used Por was they were local to me at he time.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I've added up the amount of TIG welding on just the panels alone, and came to an incredible 75 meters or 250 feet! That is 1.5 times the length of an Olympic Pool that was welded, ground, planished flat and sanded smooth. No wonder it too so long. ;)

I've used KBS fuel tank coater on my Volvo 240 which seems to have worked a treat, and also used the chassis coater kit on a dune buggy I built just out of high school.

Never managed to put a scratch in it, and that says something. Went on with a brush and self levelled pretty well, too. Would recommend!

Take heed of the instruction that says "don't get on skin", they aren't joking, it does not come off until your skin does

Can't fault the Kbs products used it on the cruiser 5 years ago hardly has a stone chip and still has a good shine. Just used it on another build in satin black and has a nice factory type finish. Keep in mind the rust seal product is not uv stable, it will fade pretty quick so needs to be top coated with the blacktop chassis coater https://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/product/blacktop/ . The blacktop chassis coater can also be used over normal primers with good results as i did on the cruiser

I'm glad to hear it. :)
I spoke to KBS and they felt that as the chassis wont see direct sunshine, shouldn't need their top coat as well. You think it still will?

I would personally. The chassis i just did was out side for about 4 or so weeks after doing the rust seal and had already started to fade and go a bit funny before i scuffed it over and top coated it.
I know it's a bit of extra expense, was $95 for last 1ltr tin of top coater i purchased a couple of months ago from my paint supplier.
But it would be a shame if you did your chassis, and after a few months and reassembly it started to go patchy. I went though almost 2ltrs doing the chassis, inside and out, and all the associated parts diffs, hubs, steering components etc. But then i wasn't being stingy as it's an off road vehicle. Another cruiser

Did you spray the top coat or can you still brush it on and it self levels?

Image
The symmetry of the front has always bothered me due to the number plate being offset. Some details get worse over time and others don't bother you at all as time passes, this was the former!

Image
Thought maybe it would look better mounted in the centre, but to what? Idea came to me to repurpose a stainless grab handle and picked one where the mounting flanges unbolted. Can then use the threaded bung to mount it to the Willys from underneath.

Image
Just the bar on its own actually looks quite good! I thought the tube size might be too large, but think it suits the proportions of the front end.

Image
Mocked up to see if it would look any good.

Image
Also thought that the next size up in length might be better, so offset it to see where one side would end up. It would be the same width as the grille.

Image
But one day I would like to change the plate for a slimline and then the extra length didn't look as good. Stated getting too crowded around the recovery hook.

Image
The shorter one looks good with the slimline which is the size of the cardboard mock-up piece.

Image
Rather than welding it on, decided to use nutserts so the backing plate can be changed for the smaller size later on and also leave a small gap for the water to drain out.

Image
Countersunk stainless screws hold the backing plate in place.

Image
Plate fits right over the screws and the mounting holes were drilled and tapped for the screws.

Image
Just a small detail but already looks better with the standard sized plate.
