What front shock absorbers to use on XJ6 S11 ?

Post by 46OzHudson »

Sorry it's been ages since I've been on here.
I'm finally getting back into my project and was wondering what shock absorbers you have used for a Jag XJ6 S11 front end?

It's been so long I didn't remember, had to look back through my build thread.
Page 6 will show you the info and brackets I made (if the pics are visible)

The box says KYB 343087.

Hope that helps

Correction. I just had a look at looking on line for VW Beetle shocks. The items I have are round eye bush top and bottom. Post 68 on a supplier I looked at , had the lower mount with the eye bush and the upper is a shaft with nut style. 50,s/to 68 are listed as same.

I bought my upper shock mounts from Toprodz, here on this forum. First quality pieces, at a very fair price. These mounts use the VW Beetle shocks.

depends what car your building,...if its a HotRod like a 32 or an A Model when they weigh 1200 or 1300kg,.....then VW Shocks might be fine,....
but given they only look to have 3" of travel theyll ride like shit with a decent sized car on top of em ,,,,theyre just not a big enough resevior of fluid for a bigger car...

I used BOGES Shocks for an XJ^ in my F100 and it weighs 1800kg,, and rides and handles really well.

A mate built a 53 Chevy Pickup wih a JAG S2 IFS, his weighs 1750kg , ( i think his LS1 is the difference ) he initially used VW Shocks and it rode n drove bloody terrible the suspension and damping was utter rubbish,.....
He drove mine n I talked him into fitting BOGEs and it literally transformed the way that car rode n drove... ...whats a VW weigh ???,,..vs what a Jag/F100 or larger car weighs,,....youll get the picture... and a VW has no front end weight let alone a big V8 over the front end. I will be fitting Vikings to my next oen and have adjustable rebound and compression dampind in the front as well,....my 64 F100 has Vikings in the rear and theyre bloody awsome THE best bang for the buck youll spend on your suspension.
