Is there a power steering expert out there ?

Finally after years of building this project I got to drive it up the road albeit for only 5 minutes or so. Got it back into shed only to see power steering fluid leaking from the boots. Loosened them off and ALL the fluid dumped out onto the floor. So what we have here is a seal rebuild ( by me ) VN Commodore rack and pump. I have converted the pump to a V pulley instead of ribbed. It's a 6 inch pulley and the crank pulley is also 6". So I'm thinking it can't be spinning too fast ? The high / low pressure hoses are connected correct. Or it could be my mistake not putting it back together properly. Any ideas please before I --------
1. pull this to bits
2. order another seal kit
3. chase down another rack for rebuild

I haven't driven it yet. Still got a few other problems to solve / fix. Can't get the brakes to bleed so that's my main concern right now.

What is the story behind the brakes?. New system and master cyl?. One problem if a new master cyl is overcome by bench bleeding it first before fitting. Otherwise you end up with difficulty bleeding the system. I do either following method. Mount m/c in a vice fit shorty lines with rubber tube and the ends sitting inside the fluid filled reservoirs. Pump with a large screwdriver or similar until the bubbles disappear and then carefully fit the loaded master cyl to the vehicle, or do same with master cyl in the vehicle and then swap in your lines.

Well Frank, this whole brake bleeding operation is doing my head in. I've tried just about everything twice or three times and still can't get it to bleed. I originally thought it was all because the master cylinder is mounted below the floor. Tried the 2 person bleed a few times. Tried the 1 person bleed kit but hardly no fluid coming through. Tried a vacuum bleed kit but hardly no fluid. Back bled the system. Tried jacking up front to raise front calipers, no luck, same with rear. Had the master cylinder out and apart 3 times including new kit, double / triple checked seals correct and put together correct. Last effort was to bench bleed the master, not exactly your method but will take out again and try it. Could not get the master to go hard with screwdriver and when put back in car the pedal goes to the floor with no resistance. And hardly no brake fluid comes out the nipples. Using a VT Commodore master. Unknowingly to me at the time I only needed to use 1 front master port and T the lines at the front of chassis. But I installed two separate front lines. Those I've talked to say won't make any difference. Going to try one more time tomorrow with both front nipples open at the same time and see what happens.

Well I'm effin over it. Tried to bleed one more time , no go. Pulled out master and stripped again to check everything. Even tried another housing. Bench bled and fitted back in ( prick of a job ) tried bleeding and straight to the floor --- no pressure. So I'm resigned the fact I'll have to re-do the lines and fit residual valves. It's the only thing left I haven't done. Pulled the cover over it and I'm going camping !

what booster are you using??
Is the push rod in the front of booster adjusted to suit the piston in the master cylinder, If it is too short you won't be getting the master cylinder piston to travel far enough to bleed the brakes

Using the factory VT Commodore master and booster.

Ok it shouldn't be that unless the push rod fell out when you had it apart, I am not sure what the problem is, good luck with it

Do you have a proportioning valve in the system ?, it may be that .

The VT master has a proportioning valve built in apparently.

May be its because you are using a Master cylinder from an ABS system or there is something missing between the booster and the master cylinder.

Found problem. Wrong size piston seal in the kit resulting in no pressure. Thanks everybody.
