Residual brake valve leak

Hey all. Residual valve in the brake lines seems to leak from the brass fittings that go into the alloy housing.
I have tightened them up as tight as I dare. The brass fittings are a tapered thread.
Should there be any sealant on them?
Any clues?

Tapered threads should not require any sealant.

I had the same problem On the last car I did. The problem ended up being the brass fitting. I replaced it with a different brand fitting and no more problem. Not even some teflon sealant helped the first fitting.

Its the tapered thread, we do not use taper thread fittings on brakes here in Australia its a USA thing.
You are mixing two different systems together and it does not work.
Try a brake specialist for advice or adaptors

What vehicle are we talking about ?

Drum Brakes and 10 psi Residual Pressure Valves ?

Disc Brakes and 2 psi Residual Pressure Valves ?

1940 chev pickup. Master cylinder is under the floor. I am using a 10 lb one for the rear drums and 2 lb ones on the front discs. Will post some photos when I work out how to.

Good tip. Everyone of these I have purchased though has come already fitted with the brass adaptor.

It's the brass adaptor leaking where it goes into the valve

Hey all it would appear that I think I have solved my drama. The brass adaptors are damaged where the Bundy tube flare seats on the adaptor. So I have sourced some steel adaptors and used some sealant on the thread where it goes into the valve. So far so good. No leaks. Thanks for the advice, Neil
