using Speedi-Sleeves on undersize 8" ford axles

Hi, the seal area on my 8" Ford 28 spline axles is worn and I was going to fit some 99138 Speedi-Sleeves on them but the axle diameters are under the recommended shaft size for the Speedi-Seal
(my axles measure 34.6/34.7mm dia and the speedi-seal spec sheet range is 34.82/34.98mm) There are no other Speedi-Seals that would suit this diameter.
Has anyone used loctite in this application to fill the gap and if so, what type?
I contacted SKF who make speedi-seals and they did not recommend using loctite.
The other question I have is how do you push the speedi-seals onto the axle as the tool that is supplied is a cup and it is not suitable for this application.

Might I suggest, there is a wheel bearing available for Ford axles that has a sealed bearing, and an Oring groove on the outer surface of the bearing that allows you to eliminate the conventional axle seal. I'll see if I can find the part number.

Thanks, Sounds like a good idea. My diff is a 63-64 Fairlane 8" small bearing with 1.378" dia axles 2.824" o.d. bearings and 2.8125 o.d. axle seals.
I hope you can find something suitable.

What I am finding is Moser Engineering, Inc. 9507F AXLE BEARINGS SMALL FORD. Summit and Jegs both list it. About $70 USD a pair.

if you dont use something like 660 loctite to fill the groove that is in the axle you will end up with the same problem. Speedi Sleeves are very thin and the new seal will push/work the material it into the groove.
Funny you say SKF said not to use it, last time the SKF Seals engineer was here he recommended to use 660 loctite . ( I work for the SKF Australian distributor)

Other option is to find a seal with the same OD and slightly smaller ID and just get the seal dia Ground to suit. Have a look at online catalogues with seal dimensions

Hi gents. I ended up changing the bearing to HK,T,G Holden type which have an o-ring on the o.d. of the bearing.
They are the same i.d. and o.d. as the Ford ones.
No axle seals are required with them. I did have to machine the bearing retainers 1 mm deeper as the Holden bearing is 1mm wider than the Ford.
It all fitted together nicely. Cheers, Gary
