As it stands at the moment in Australia if you are an administrator of a forum or chat room you are legally liable for anything that appears on there, whether you are aware of an offending post or not.
(There is precidence in law) As long as a third party has the opportunity to read it your in liable.
It is impossible for an administrator to monitor all the posts, all the time. Therefore any administrator is leaving themselves wide open to litigation. Even if you were to deem or request that members do not discuss political issues, you have absolutely no control over anyone getting on there and saying what ever they like.

Further to this I had a very long talk to my wife last night and as a result I will be resigning from the ASRF and 20 year association with Bay Rodders, I will also be disolving my partnership with Dave and no longer have anything to do with the website or the forum. I will also be contacting my website client base informing them that they will need to make other maintainance and hosting arrangements. This is not a decision that I make lightly, but one that I am prepared to make for my wife and family.

I have already spoken to Dave and told him of my decisions. He is now deciding upon the future of the forum, but I believe if he comes to the same conclusions as myself that it will be down by the end of the week. So if there is any information that you wish to retain now would be a good time.

I would like to thank Dave for the great time we've had at Hot Rod Internet and you guys for making it the place it was.

I would also ask that no one under any circumstances call me on my home phone number. As this whole episode has been distressing enough for my wife as it is.

Well, that SUX....VERY VERY VERY sorry to hear this........I'm speechless (almost!). Sad

I hope some other people are thinking as hard as you've obviously done Greg as to the implications involved in what's going on (and I doubt very much that I have even taken in the full scope of the situation). Mad

Man, I hope this ISN'T the beginning of the end.

I'm bummed out.... Crying or Very sad

I'll talk to you soon Greg. Keep your head up. I think you've done the right thing.

I didn't want to say too much till Greg had announced his intentions. Now I guess I can. Firstly it has been a great pleasure working with Greg to get this site to where it is today. The Forum has always been his 'baby' and it must be terribly distressing to see what has eventuated. I am currently discussing the future of HRI with Donna, but I, like Greg do not wish to be placed into a position where someone could sue me for free speech. Yeah sure I might win but at what cost?

Greg will be a very sad loss from the Internet, ASRF and Hotrodding and will always remain a good mate of mine and to all on here. The total lack of recognition given to him for the 10 years of work on the ASRF web site is bad enough without this final slap. Greg I personally would like to acknowledge the great contribution you have made to hotrodding but also totally understand your decision. At this stage it looks like we will be closing the Forum by the end of the weekend but the Hot-Rod Internet site will stay up to a reduced degree.

I would ask that any further posts made between now and then remain restrained and sensible. If you have any comments to make toward any particular person/s organisation/s they should be done of your own volition through other appropraite channels.

Again Greg Adios, it has been fun and a great pleasure working with you. A cold beer sometime in the future will be had together. All the best.

Sorry... but that's ABSOLUTELY FUCKED! It's a sad day when the law comes to a decision like that.

I'm stunned to say the least and imagine what the Yanks are going to say about this. If someone hasn't already said something on the HAMB, I think I'll let them know.

Greg, it's been great. In a relatively short time you have turned this forum into one of the best run and well managed of the MANY that I have posted on over the years (and I'm registered on a bunch of them).

I think it sucks, I think the situation that brought it on sucks and most importantly, I think it's FUCKING UN-AUSTRALIAN!

Jerks...

Greg and Dave. Thank you for having provided this forum.

It is a shame it is coming to an end. But I'm sure, Pheonix-like, something will rise in time to fill the HUGE gap left by your efforts.

I will miss this place and the discussions that have taken place.

Before it all disappears I would suggest we trade email addresses or start a thread for the remaining days so we can as much as possible keep in contact.

Regards, Matt

Well, I'd offer my website as my contact point but it'll die too....Greg's been awesome looking after that for me. Now, what next for Kustom Ink....?? I'd better start me some HTML'ing.....

AllI can say is Ditto, I am sad to see the end of something so good.
I have not been here that long, but I did enjoy the time that I had.

I can understand Greg....this is just a hobby, it shouldn't have priority over your home life...Thanks for providing it for as long as you have...It's just a shame that something so important to a lot of rodders in this country is undone by an action by one individual. Hopefully the site will resurect sometime in the future. Take care to both you and Dave..We'll catch up on the road somewhere and have a beer or two..or three.

I'm stunned.

Thank you guys (Dave & Greg) for providing an accessible avenue for all things rod related. I've learnt so much and am that much wiser for the experiance thanks to many individuals here. I've learnt and laughed while doing, something that doesnt always happen.

Greg, Dave, I'm am sorry that this crap has befallen you and I sure understand your reasonings for pulling the pin. After all, family comes first. You guys sure dont deserve to be in this position at all.

I hope that I can catch up with you both at either a victorian rod run or even if you venture into NSW for run.

My interest in being an ASRF member is dwinding rapidly...

its amazing how things can go pear shaped in such a short time, this is without a doubt the most stupidiest thing I have heard of,

this site has done more for myself personally in the way of furthering my hotrodding than the asrf has ever done. I have met and formed friendships through here that I know will contiue.

As for Greg, it is the final injury after insult, I just cant beleive how much you have been shat on from high. I can only hope that one day you will get over it all greg and again enjoy hotrodding.

if it was me, It would be a very sour day in my life...

You have done a stellar job, and HRI will always be remembered as a fantastic place to be.

Shit what am I going to do with my time now? Crying or Very sad

Dont give up just yet. I will be contacting the ASRF today and informing them that I will not be renewing my membership. I VERY VERY strongly urge ALL ASRF members who use this board to do the same. I could even be pesuaded to fly over and talk with Mr Tudman privately, just him and me, if you know what I mean.
